I didn't think that Jill and Cathy could out-do past kits but they have with this one. My favorite thing about this kit is that it's half Fall and half Halloween!!! How cool is that?!?! Can you say SASSY?? That was my first thought when I saw the line Cathy and Jill had chosen for the September kit. It's so gorgeous! This kit was amazing to work with, sadly mine is gone, gone, gone. I used every last little bit of it. This was perfect for my daughters and for ME. The embellishments were some of my favorites to date and I've been getting TSS kits for a long, long time (like from the beginning!).

Hello everyone!! Aimee here with the scoop about the fun things going on at The Scrapping Spot!! We just started up our 8th session of "tag layout"!! It's so much fun to anticipate the challenge you will get and the greatest part is to see the reveal after everyone has completed their layouts/challenge!! You can see the last game reveals here!

We still have the July challenges going on for another 11 days! There are some great prizes being offered up!! Anna's prize for her "packing for the beach" recipe challenge: A $10 GC to The Scrapping Spot store!!! And I have offered up a loot of ribbon and twine for my "Jazz up Your Ribbon" challenge!

Cathy has a word challenge. You have to use the word Celebration or Celebrate somewhere on your layout! And Jill has this awesome sketch challenge from Pagemaps!!

Summer is here and the June kit is perfect for your summer fun photos! I had a blast creating with this bright, cheerful kit! This is also my last month designing for The Scrapping Spot and I am so thankful for the wonderful time I've had with Jill and Cathy's kits! It has been an honor and privilege to be on their team.

I was able to scrap 5 layouts, a card and make paper "Flip Flops" - I hope you'll enjoy them and be inspired. I did use a piece of glitter card stock and a couple of alphabets from my stash, as well as a few Converse(r) tags and brads, but the rest is from the kit.

its my last month on the Design Team for The Scrapping Spot....I am sad, I really love their kits, but since I have been on the team for over a year I cant complain....... The June kit, available tomorrow June 1st, features Basic Grey's Lauderdale...check it out:

Isn't it fabulous???? I have to say I really enjoyed working with it!! So yep this kit is BG Lauderdale, great colors, kind of a tropical kind of feeling but can be used for other things as well! I loved the little coffee filter circles!!

So let me share what I did with the beautiful June kit:

my one and only Hawaii layout this month features a photo I took of my daughter Kari on the balcony of the cruise ship early one morning (I did add the little piece of rick rack for the banner from my stash) The little banner chipboards are the add on from Jenni Bowlin:

and here is an example of not going tropical with the kit....my grandson Jeromy, in a tree....I love these colors!!! I misted the coffee filter paper circles and then I spattered with real paint and on the bigger one used some alcohol inks too:

and this last one (added a little piece of rick rack again) Trevor has already claimed this one......"I really like this one" he says ;)

And the last thing I always do when I finish up with a kit is to make a few cards from the remains on my scrappy counter...usually Thank You cards because those get used the fastest :) Usually nothing elaborate, just something simple:

The Scrapping Spot Design Team Call

The Scrapping Spot is looking for creative, innovative and talkative scrappers to join our Design team. The Design Team term will run for six months: July 2011 thru December 2011.

Design team members will receive:

-a free monthly TSS kit to create with, shipping included

-a 25% discount in the online shop

- free shipping on orders that are shipped with the monthly kit.

Design Team members are responsible for:

Designing 4 layouts AND 1 card or altered project

At least 2 finished projects by the 25th of the previous month, the rest by the 1st of the month

Layouts and other items should use at least 90% of the product in our kits.

Also required:

1 blog post monthly

1 weekly challenge a month

Posting layout examples to our groups on Facebook

Board participation:

Promote The Scrapping Spot around the internet (where allowed)

"Table Talk" Tutorial

It's already mid-April (did you get your taxes done?) and soon you'll be seeing sneak peeks at the fun May kit! But first, I thought I would show you how I made the "Table Talk" box using the fabulous April kit. The Bo Bunny Ad Lib line is perfect for this project! I started with a sweetner box as a template. I took it apart and traced it onto yellow cardstock.

A 12x12 piece of cardstock was not quite big enough but that was okay because I wanted the top to be a patterned paper anyway. So I also traced the top part (with a little overlap) onto the patterned paper. I've marked the flaps where I will put adhesive.

Then I cut out the box and top, scored and folded them. (Sidenote, thank you to my assistant Tessa, my 7-year-old who helped me hold the project and took some of the photos!)

Next, I used my adhesive gun to put the box together.

Then it was time to decorate it, using alphabet stickers and the cardstock stickers that came in the April kit.

I found a blog post at Quirky Momma.com with a free file of "conversation starter" questions which I copied and pasted into a Word Document. I also added some of my own questions. I set up my document with 2 columns so I could cut them apart to make cards the right size for my box. My cards are about 3" x 4" and are printed on white cardstock (I buy the big pack from Wal-mart.) I used my Stampin' Up Tab punch and a couple of other punches to make tabs for some of the cards, to make it easier to thumb through them (and they look cuter, right?)

And now we have a cute little box to pull out at dinner whenever we need a boost to get our conversation started... or we could use it as a party game or in the car on long trips!

So I wanted to share my layouts with you:

With this last layout I didnt add anything, and I have to say I love the shapped layouts and decided that the cutout photo was perfect for this paper!!! So fun and playful :)

February Kit is here!

The February Kit is on sale now in the store! Isn't it adorable? I had so much fun creating with this cute kit! If you are tired of snow, ice and cold weather, this is the perfect kit to cheer you up and bring you a breath of fresh air!

I'll let Julie show you her designs when she gets back from CHA, but thought I'd share mine with you today.

This last one is my blog header. I love making "mini layouts" with my blog title and switching out my header every now and then!

Almost everything you see is in the kit except for a few denim circles I die cut. On the "Snow Fun" 2-pager, I also used a Cosmo Cricket alphabet, Unity snowman stamps, glimmer mists (marshmellow and chalkboard on the tulle circles), and die cut snowflakes. On my wreath, I added some fabric and the ribbon hanger. If you like the tulle and eyelet "yoyo" on the wreath, I'll post a tutorial showing how I made it later this month.

December: Memory Box and Dec. Daily Mini

I have had the best time using the December kit! I decided to make a "mini" December Daily Tag album, one where we can jot quick notes and print small photos. It will go in our "2010 Memory Box" with the cards, programs and other odds&ends we collect this Christmas season. In addition to the December Kit, I used office supply tags and a couple of other alphabets. The memory box is a plain white photo storage box that I misted with Glimmer Mist (Bronze) and Walnut spray ink (Eucalyptus). I also used Tim Holt's Rosette die, quite a few punches, Martha Stewart fringe scissors, a few Elle's Studio journaling spots and a Unity stamp. All the papers (including the lace cardstock), trim and embellishments are in the kit or the add-ons. My heart just went "pitter patter" when I saw the Crochet flower and I knew I had to use it somewhere I could see it often!

I hope you'll share your December projects with us, too! Be sure to get yourself an early Christmas present - this kit is gorgeous! We'll be sharing our layouts soon, so check back!

September Challenge and October Hint

Who has scrapped a layout for a September challenge? Don't forget to post a link to your layouts so we can see them! I've done one, the Use Paint challenge. And I used the TSS August kit. The cardstock behind the photo was painted with Ivory paint and then I dragged a "woodgrain tool" (bought at Lowe's Home store) to create the look.

If you love Autumn, stay tuned for one fabulous fall kit! I don't know about you, but the leaves are starting to change and fall off the trees here in NC. I keep hoping we'll soon have some cooler weather to go with the season!

September Challenges at TSS

Is your scrapbooking stash pile growing? Do you need a little inspiration? Looking for some fun ideas? Come join us for our September "Scrap Your Stash" challenges! You do not have to use a TSS kit for the challenges (but there are a few in the store if you'd like one). You don't have to join the message board to participate (but we'd love to have you join us). All you *have* to do is scrap and post a link to your layouts here on the blog or on the message board in the September Scrap Your Stash forum.

There will be a little "scrappy happy" prize for one lucky scrapper! The more challenges you complete, the more entries to the random drawing you receive. You have until the last day of September to complete and post your work. So go scrap!

September Scrap Your Stash Challenges

1. Scrap Your Scraps - use your scraps, your little leftovers, to create a layout.
2. Fussy Cut - cut out some of those pretty designs on your patterned paper.
3. Inspired by Snacks - do a layout that is inspired by your favorite snack food, whether its the color of the packaging, the shape of the snack itself, or even scrap your love of that food.
4. Paint it Up - use paint on a layout.
5. Sketch It - use sketch #125 from Nuts About Sketches (click for link to see sketch).
6. No Patterned Paper - Do a LO with no PP. Be creative and show us what you can do with a sewing machine, paint, mists, stencils, etc.

September Kit - Candace's Projects

I am so happy to be here at "The Scrapping Spot" and to be able to share my September kit projects with you! The Cosmo Cricket Delovely papers are beautiful and it was hard to decide which side to use. The entire kit is gorgeous and you can get yours today at The Scrapping Spot Store!

On this first layout "Sweet 6", I cut out the "middles" of my patterned papers and made a multi-layered frame. I used a Stampin' Up Top Note die and punch for the photo shapes. I used some of my border punches but all items are from the kit (the "6" is from an alphabet add-on).

Everything from "Twinkle Toes" is in the kit:

For "Scootin' Along" I used one of Shawn's sketches (week 123) from her site Nuts about Sketches. I cut some white cardstock into approx. 2" pieces, border punched them and inked them to give it a "layered ribbon" look.

Next, I did a 2-pager using a collage print from Winkflash and a sunflower template from The Crafter's Workshop (with my sharpie markers):

In "like a kid again," I used another template to mist the background (I added some yellow acrylic paint to water in a little mister bottle to make my own) and I used a little bit of decorative packing tape I found in the dollar section at Michael's:

On "Summer of Firsts" I used some My Mind's Eye stamps in addition to the lovely papers in the kit. I made the medallion/ribbon using some crepe streamer, a gold foil sticker, and the rest is from the kit. You can use any circles and adhesive to make one. Cut a circle, put some glue or adhesive on it, run your crepe around the back of the circle, then glue another one on top to hold it in place. I layered a white cardstock accordian flower, other patterned paper circles and a yellow sparkler dot from the kit, and of course the "ribbon tails" were cut from kit papers.

And last, I made a baby card using one of the Carolyn Gavin Word greenhouse stickers.

This kit was SO much fun to use! I hope you'll get one, too!

May Kit Projects for The Scrapping Spot

The Bo Bunny inspired kit has been a blast to work with, I am really loving the colors and textures and worked this kit to bare scraps. So let me show you what I have done!

I used a Kaisercraft tote box kit, which I altered using The Scrapping Spot May kit featuring Bo Bunny and used Helmar adhesives throughout. The Helmar Acid Free glue works great for adhering papers with a solid smooth flow, the 450 Quick Dry was great for attaching the alpha (its not going anywhere ;) I decided to make it to hold the cards that I make. I am not a card maker but I do make them now and again using scraps. My kids like to use them so I make them :)

First we have Jamie sporting his new Sponge Bob Underoos!

This is my beautiful niece, Kimmy, with a freidn of her at a track meet - more on that later as she is a track superstar!

Here is Jamie once again - showing me he is totally over smiling for the camera!

And my roommate - the illustrous Roxy the Pug!

Back to beautiful Kimmy - she is a Freshman at Sultana High and already running on the varsity team = look out next year!! This is a bunch of photos of her and her friends on the team!

I am so happy to join The Scrapping Spot family as your newest DT member! So a little about me, Julie Walton, but you all know me as juliesaddiction. I have been paper scrapping about 5 years, digital scrapping about 2 years, yep I do both. I am a stay at home grandma to 3 little people, hey it keeps me in photos, lol! Jenna is 6 in March, Jeromy is 4 1/2 and Trevor is 3 1/2......and those halfs count *wink*. We like to go go go all the time and Wingie (thats what they call me) always has the camera ready. I have three grown daughters as well, Kari is 28, Katy is 27 and Rachel is 22. I have a love for art, photography, reading and I am throughly addicted to Facebook and Farmville, oh boy! The beach is my favorite place and I dearly love my laptop, lol! As a DT member at The Scrapping Spot, I hope to inspire you to try new things, to learn and grow in your scrapping.....and to get those pictures scrapped!! February kits and a sneak!

February is almost over and I just now got a chance to update the blog with the full reveal. Sigh... life!

Isn't it gorgeous? I'll have to admit that I was all kinds of worried when Jill and Cathy were putting this kit together. I had visions of pepto bismol dancing through my head. It's no secret that I am not a fan of pink. But, once the kit was put together I noticed the blue, green, brown and bits of red. Jill even reminded me that there was PINK in the kit when Cathy was taking a count of who wanted what for the month. I just did a layout with this kit yesterday, but no picture to upload right now. AND....wait for it....... I used it on a layout of a BOY! The cherry ice stickles should be more than dry by now.

Em and Lisa really did an awesome job of putting some projects together. Check out the message board for some gorgeous goodness from them!

Before I leave, let me toss in a sneak of March's kit...

My January kit should be on its way to me. Darn USPS...for the amount of money we pay for postage, the suckers should have its own wings! Rant over... I just want my kit already. Why, you ask? Look at this!

Sharing my faves of Em's and Lisa's December projects. I love all their stuff, seriously. They drop inspiration everywhere they turn, but these are a few of my favorite things...

I love how Lisa used flowers on a "boy" layout. The flowers don't detract from that handsome face!

I could seriously hang this project on my front door. I might have to borrow the design!

Lisa could very well be my long lost twin! I think she loves border punches just as much as I do! I had to buy the Martha Stewart doily double punch after seeing one of her projects posted on the message board.

I love how Em cut out the ornaments and "hung" them on her layout. Mad skills with the scissors!

These cards make me wish I had waited to make my Christmas cards. Maybe next year??!??!

Lisa is our newest design team member. She is no stranger to the kit club world. We "met" her on Willow Traders. We're especially fascinated by the antics of her pug, Roxy. It's amazing what trouble Roxy can get into and cause!

Here is what Lisa has to say:

I live in beautiful, humid Southwest Florida with my sweet baby Pug - Roxy. She is the talent in this family! No children, but some awesome nieces and nephews that are usually the stars of my layouts. I have been scrapping for about 4 years now and my style has evolved to what has been described as funky and chunky! I like dimension and texture on my layouts which leads me to torturing a lot of cardboard. I am a huge fan of Sassafras Lass, Cosmo Crickets new lines and JilliBean Soup. You could also call me hooked on Kraft. I am an avid acrylic stamp collector and try to incorporate stamps in some of my work. Besides scrapping, I have a deep faith and teach Catechism to fifth graders. I love to read, am a self confessed Foodie and hooked on Reality TV! Although – I always TIVO to remove commercials! Most importantly - I really try not to take myself too seriously. Life is too short to be uptight - Have fun and enjoy!! I am honored to be a part of the Scrapping Spot team! Thank you for the opportunity!!

This kit looks luscious! Love the orange and brown mixed with blue and green. Very autumn-y! I long for those days filled with cool, crisp air, the turning colors of the leaves and breaking out the long jackets and wool socks. I miss those days stuck here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where it literally rains one minute and then shines the next. Makes me wish for pictures of the borrowed children frolicking in a pile of leaves...

I don't know about you, but August snuck up on me. It's more than half-way gone and frankly, I don't know where it went. I haven't scrapped since the beginning of July, but I'm hoping that life soon returns to normal and some time becomes mine again. So, suffice it to say that I was shocked when September sneaks went up on the message board. I thought, "ALREADY!?!? But, August just started." That's what happens when you're routine gets messed up and you find yourself away from home unexpectedly. But, I digress.

I saw some blue. I saw some stars. I saw some dots. I saw a cute little robot (kinda feeling like one right now). And I fell in love. It would be perfect for first day of school layouts...

Living on an island doesn't lend itself to the changing seasons. It's rainy, humid, hot and hotter. So, when I look at the April Kit, I don't think of Spring. I think of the coming summer months...the days that I have off work!!! BUT...... if you're one of those fortunate people to bear witness to the changing seasons, I'll bet Spring is a burst of excitement for you after the dreary, gloomy weather of Winter.

I thought I'd share a layout I did recently with the April kit. When Jill and Cathy were planning this kit, I loved being behind the scenes peeking at what they had in store. I thought it would be perfect for lots of different pictures I had recently taken. Now, I'm not one for matching pictures to paper. I usually just grab a kit and the recent pictures I've printed. Lucky for me, the April kit came the same week we had a visitor to our school.

Every year the local chapter of the International Reading Association raises money through a Read-a-thon to bring authors and/or illustrators to the island. Our school was fortunate enough to have an author visit us a few weeks ago. Once I printed the pictures, I set about putting a layout together.

Little did I know (until I LOOKED at the picture) that the author's shirt matched the die cut paper I used as part of the background. S.H.O.C.K. Miss no-nevermind-the-matchy-matchy serendipituously put together a matchy-matchy layout. Holy Batman!

I added the flowers from my stash...ahem... no comments from the peanut gallery about the blaringly different hues of the flower v. the papers. Same color families... it's all good to me.

From the scraps, I made this card.

I always needs cards for some reason or another and I like to be prepared. Making cards from scraps helps me get ahead of the game (even if the card may get to the recipient late... I never claimed to be super organized).

I heard through the grapevine that there are only a handful of these kits left... like less than the five fingers on one hand kind of handful. Plus, Jill and Cathy put some stuff on sale. Who doesn't like a good sale?!?!? Check it out........ soon!

Now, I'm off to enjoy the rest of my Sunday evening. I have a little munchkin who promised to listen and keep the whining to zero coming by tomorrow morning bright and early... we'll see just how much cheese I'll keep from encountering. Maybe he'll even take a nap...then I can scrap another layout I have in mind for this kit. Oh, who am I kidding?!?! If he naps, I nap. Maybe I can con him into watching a DVD on my computer........

Hitting the challenges

Dalis posted a link toWe Kit U Not's blog. I was very intrigued by the concept. Very cool, if you ask me. So, after a not so great start to this week, I got all kinds of happy in the mail! My February kit (sold out...oh yeah!!!) finally arrived safe and sound after its trek from Kentucky to Guam. After three days of admiring and pawing through it (and countless hours at work, the gym and watching my cut start to heal), I finally got to cut into my kit. Here's the first layout...

I'm still trying to decide if JB makes a pretty girl or not... he was not pleased by my sense of humor that night. I tell ya, if looks could bring me to my knees, I would have been prostrate in front of him. But, I'm the queen of the eye, so others' stink eyes don't bother me.

I know the kit is sold out, but there are still some papers and doodads available in the store. Get some of the papers and cardstock...add in the Jenni Bowlin frame from last month's kit, a sheet of the KI Memories Hopscotch lace cardstock in black for a fun background, some paisley chipboard, and there you have your very own mini kit!

Special Moment

I only used 1 piece of patterned paper for this one.

1. I started by matting the pic on it.
2. Then I trimmed a piece of the paper to be 7x10.5. I cut 1.5" strip from that 3. and attached it to the page leaving a 1.5" space between the 2 peices of patterned paper.
4. I used the red star Bazzill as a base for my photo and and embellishments.
5. I journaled on the Prima epoxy cloud with my fine point Sharpie.

Mixed Up Mittens

I cropped the small pics to 2 1/2" and matted them on the Lagoon cs, and matted my larger pic on the Avalanche cs. I trimmed the Kaiser bling so the snowflake would sit flush. I cut one of the extra stones to go in the center of the snowflake, and used other extras to dot my "i"'s on my title. I used the back side of the JB CB and lightly inked with the white pigment ink from the kit.

Cozy Toes

I cut out the center of the Fancy Pants journaling block so I could use it to frame the pic. I used the Toile Ardoise paper to mat larger pic, and used it as an accent on the top and bottom of the page.

I used a bead of KI Gloo then smeared it with my finger and sprinkled on the Coconut Pixie Stick glitter over it. It was the perfect touch of "snow" for the edge of the page!

Christmas Ornament

Hi everyone!!

I had the pleasure to work with the Crate Paper Prudence kit this month. So pretty! These papers are absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't bare to throw any scraps away.

I found this cute ornament idea on the Martha Stewart website, which was perfect for using up my scraps that I was having a hard time parting with. I thought I would share it with you.

First you will need :

12 squares of patterned paper cut measuring 1 1/2in. by 1 1/2 in.

2 small circles about 1 1/2 in. in diameter

ribbon

picture cut in 1 in. circle

buttons or which ever embellishment you would like

1. First, you want to take each square and overlap the edges to form a cone shape. Make sure not to over lap the edge too much.

2. Glue the tip of each cone to the center of one of the circles, alternating between having the front up and down. I found glue dots or even double sided tape worked the best for this!

3. Mount the photo on the other paper square and glue on top of the cones.

4. Punch hole in top of one of the cones and string ribbon through it.

5. Embellish the front of the ornament if you would like.

Cute, huh? Go ahead and give it a try! This would make perfect Christmas gifts!

Create your own Pennant Banner!

How to create a pennant banner

Most of my supplies were used from the December Harmonie Kit.

Supplies:
Ruler
Pen/Pencil
Cardstock and Pattern Paper
Embellishments
Adhesive
Hole Punch
Ribbon for hanging

1. To get started, we need to make a template for the pennants. I usually make mine 6 x 7”.

Grab a sheet of printer paper (or cardstock if you want the template for later use) and your ruler. Line your ruler up to the edge of your paper starting at the corner. Tick off at 3” and 6”.

2. Turn your ruler vertical and line it up at the 3” mark. Make a little dot at 7”.

3. Turn your ruler diagonally from the 7” dot and line it up to the 6” mark at the top of the paper. Draw your line. Line your ruler up again from 7” to 0 (the paper edge) diagonally and draw your other line.

4. Cut it out and you have the template for your word banner.

5. You need to decide which word you would like to display for the Holidays. I chose the word NOEL, so using the template, I traced around it on one piece of cardstock, and then cut, creating 4 pennants for my banner.

6. Next, we need to create a smaller template for our pattern paper to put on the cardstock base of the pennants. Follow the steps 1 – 4 and change your measurements for the tick marks to 2.25” and 5.75” on the horizontal line, and to 6.75” on the vertical. The red CS is the template for your pattern paper.

7. Cut out all your pattern papers and glue them to the cardstock base.

8. Here’s a tip. Line up your pattern paper on the cardstock base, on the top side, lift up the top edge (leave the triangle bottom flat to the paper so it doesn’t move) of the paper and run a line of glue, then flatten it back in place. Next, lift up the triangle bottom, and add your glue, then flatten down so it adheres.

By doing this, you can make sure your paper is exactly where you want it to be without it going all wonky.

9. Embellish to your heart’s content. At the top corner of each pennant, punch a hole. This is where you will thread your ribbon (in and out of each hole) to connect the pennants for your banner.

I hope you give this a try. This simple banner took about an hour from start to finish. You can also let the kids help you create by adding the flowers and alpha letters! Have fun!

Taking a little closer look at the December kits:

First up we have the December Prudence ki t. When I seen this kit I just new I had to have it so I ordered it to come along with my DT package. The kit is truly amazing and the colors go with just about anything. So it's easy to mix and match for any occasion. So I whipped up 2 cards right away with this kit. The first is a Christmas card and man does red accent the paper amazing.

The second card is an anniversary or even a Valentine theme card without the theme. lol

The papers work so well on their own, but the possabilities are endless when adding different colors, bling and ink to them.

Next up we have the December Harmonie Kit which is filled with red and greens. Truly an amazing kit for all your Traditional Holiday layouts. All the little extras in this kit really bring out the beauty in the papers. I love to document our tree each year and last year we went with all the Traditional colors of Christmas so this kit was perfect for my 2007 Christmas Tree layout.

The red, green and gold in this kit are a perfect match and work so well with each other that it's a win win.

Here's what's going on at the Spot for the month of November:

ScrapTag: Come join us for a game of tag! You roll the dice to see whose number comes up. Raid that person's gallery and lift from them! It's that easy!

Page a Day: Who can't appreciate getting more pages done? Come join the challenges of getting THIRTY pages scrapped in the month of November!

Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader? - come join us for this 6 week long challenge where the design team challenges you in each grade. There are 2 challenges each week, but you only have to complete one in order to "graduate" to the next grade.

Our challenges this week were History and Math. In history, we had to scrap an historical fact about a holiday or a family tradition. In Math, we had to take x number of one element and add x number of another element to equal x number of another element.

Here are my examples:

Math: one picture plus one patterned paper = a two word title

History: I journaled about how we have no tradition

Coasters

Coasters make great gifts for any occasion and they are a great way to use up those scraps you have piled up. With the kits this month you can't go wrong using up those scraps to make some cute coasters for family and friends and heck make some for yourself.

Products used:

4 4.5x4.5 tiles (lowes)
Mod Podge
Crystal Accents
Scraps at least 4x4
cork, buttons or beads.

You can make them as plain as you like or you can cut up some shapes to make birds, houses, owls etc. Or cut out the flowers, flourishes from the paper.

Use the Mod Podge as your adhesive.

Spreading it over the entire tile and then putting down your paper one layer at a time and putting more Mod Podge in between layers. Putting a final layer on top when done. Once dry add a layer of Crystal accents on top to seal it and water proof it. Finish it off by adding cork, buttons or beads on the bottom part in the corners so it's easy to move your coasters around etc.

Recoloring a Photo

In this digital age, we scrapbookers aren't limited to using the pictures we have just the way they are. We can crop them, we can totally change the colors, we can do weird and crazy things to them, and we can recolor bits of them to suit our needs.

While I do these steps in Photoshop Elements 6.0, you can use whichever program you have to achieve the same effects.

First, open your photo editing program and select the picture you want to use:

I want to change this picture to black and white, yet leave the green apples green.

So I used my lasso tool to highlight or draw around the part I wanted to keep - in this case, the apples.

I used my inverse tool to tell the program that I really wanted to highlight everything EXCEPT the apples.

I then converted the picture to black and white. But notice that it only converted the parts that were highlighted.

Then I can crop the photo to the way I want it:

I know there aren't a lot of pictures with this, but darn it, I couldn't figure out how to get my screen shots saved into the appropriate format! It was all kinds of nifty the way I had it planned out, but I couldn't figure out how to get Word to convert to anything remotely resembling a jpeg, bitmap or png! Sorry guys!

Scrapbooking Gone Green!

Right now is a big time in our country. People are forced to look at our country, decide what needs changed, improved, and where we are excelling and then choose a presidential candidate who best represents their beliefs.

However, despite whether you lean towards red or blue, I think we can all agree that our world is running out of some of its resources. The amount we consume in the world and in our country especially is astronomical.

So, my challenge to you is this: Do what you can, as a scrapbooker, to think twice before thowing something out. And I don't just mean scrapbooking supplies. What everyday supplies do you use and then throw out that could instead be used on a page or project?

Here are some of the ideas I thought of:

Cardboard is SO popular in scrapbooking right now. It is durable and gives a GREAT look! AND it can be found EVERYWHERE!

1. Sometimes when I want more dimension with my alpha stickers I stick them to cardboard (like the box your monthly kit comes in!) and then cut them out. This way I have created thicker "chipboard" alphas of my own.

2. I made a frozen pizza this week for my family. The pizza came on corragulated cardboard. I cut a piece of the cardboard out and used it as a stamp on this page:

Cool huh?

3. I don't know about you, but we go through WAY too many rolls of toilet paper. I hate always seeing those poor helpless toilet paper rolls in the trash can SOOO I decided to use them to make a mini book! I flattened them, decorated them, and then tied the rolls together to make this mini book/wall hanging.

I made a book about why I am thankful for each of my family members. I used the toilet paper tubes as an envelope to place little notes to each of my family members about why they are special to me:)

What ideas can you come up with to help give your household trash extra life through scrapbooking? I would LOVE to see your ideas!

Using Up Scraps, and Fixing an Oops!

So I grabbed my scraps left from my November WRMK kit, these were real scraps. Small pieces, some had circles cut out. Not too many alphas left.
You get where I am coming from, right?

I spent some time moving the pieces around to get a nice design for my page. Not only did I have to work on the design, but had to make sure the circle out of the Orange spotted paper was covered.

Off I go to glue it all down and get my page done. Now to work out the alpha dilemma. OK make a Q into an O and a B into a P, that worked great! A little doodling around my page and whammo! My paint pen leaks!! YIKES!!

I cut a small circle out if the Doodlebug Sugar Coated cardstock, carefully lifted what was already glued down. Adhered my circle, and Voila!

Hey y'all. I've been crazy about roughing up the edges of my pattern paper and cardstock lately.
At least 1 out 5 layouts have some wicked distressed edges to it. Now, what's a girl to do if she loses her distressing tool, and is on a strict budget?
Get creative.

I used my scissors. My old ones that I don't care if they get dull or not.

You need to grip your scissors like when you curl ribbon for packages.

Then just run your scissors along the edges of your paper back n forth.

If you rub semi lightly, you'll get a nice distressed edge.
Leave it naked, or make it pop more with ink or chalk.

If you put too much pressure on the paper, it may rip like this.

That's ok. Leave it as is, or bend it this way and that, and use it anyway!

Now, add it to a layout.
It adds such texture and dimension.

Rachel can attest that SHE is smarter than a scrapbookin' 5th grader. She did all 5 challenges and all 5 extra credit assignments. I missed it by one. So now we move on to the weekly word challenges. This was posted by Leah earlier this week...

We thought it would be fun to play with words to jumpstart our scrapping engines a bit. Each week, we'll choose ONE word, and you will have one week to scrap it. The title or journaling must include the Word of the Week (WOTW).

Halloween Decor!

One of my favorite things to do, besides scrapbooking, is decorating my house! I especially love the holidays for this very reason! PLUS I am always looking for fun and new ways to use my scrapbooking supplies!

In this months newsletter I shared a fall door hanger that I made with you.

Well, I recently made this with left over scraps and I love it!
I used left over scraps from some halloween pages I have been doing. I think it is SO cute and festive!

Playing with Burlap

In your Daily Grind "October" kit you will find a nice size piece of burlap. Burlap can be fun to play with. All you need to do is look at it as a canvas waiting to be altered and played with. Don't be afraid to cut it up and explore the fabric with your papers or by it self with some paint etc.

I made this fun little bag that can be filled with candy, chocolates etc. I cut a piece of burlap and folded it in half. I used a good fabric glue "Api's The Ultimate glue" to adhere the paper, ball fringe and seal the sides of the bag. I then took some floss and secured the sides and added some stitching to the pattern papers.

This 5x5 card uses the burlap as a background "paper" and then I put the Fancy Pants overlay over it, added some bling brads and a rub-on and it made a quick simple easy card.

This small little 3x3 card shows the burlap used more like a ribbon. It was a fun little added touch that added some dimension to my card.

I can't wait to see what you do with the burlap in your kit this month. Be sure to upload to the gallery so we can all get some great ideas on how to add burlap or fabric to our projects.

Layout a Month!!

Hey there! This is my first post on the scrapping spot blog spot! I have decided to talk a little bit about a class I teach at my LSS. I have been teaching this class for almost two years and it seems to be a hit. I teach a class called Layout of the Month. We meet and create a layout that I have designed for each month. The class is held on the last Thursday of each month so we have all month to gather stuff for our layouts. Here's the general idea:

All month long you keep items you would like to include on your layout. Ticket stubs, coasters from places you eat, pictures, notes from loved ones.... you get the idea. We save ALL KINDS of stuff. We keep a calendar of things we've done all month as well. Then when we meet at the end of the month, we have all of our "stuff" with us to add to the layout. I make the kits based on colors that would go with that month, but not necessarily "themed" layouts. For example, there are no pumpkins on the October page...The pages are very versatile. Single people can scrap themselves, can scrap themselves, families can scrap the whole family, or individuals.

Vera here to remind you that there are only 2 more days left in August. Which means, you have only two days to get those design team applications in! We've received some great submissions in the last few weeks. Jill and Cathy are going to have a difficult time choosing the new team. We all hope that those new faces on the message board stick around and continue to play with us even if they aren't chosen. We're a couple of slightly nutty people, but hey, whatever makes the world go 'round, right?!?!??!

September kits are IN the store! I wish I could wax poetic about the kits, but this month they sure are taking their time to get to me. Still, Jill and Cathy put in lots of great stuff! Pink Paislee may be a fairly new company on the block, but they sure have taken the scrapping world by storm. I even went for the Pop Fashion kit. Everyone at TSS knows that pink is not my thing. Jill and I fall in the same bucket there. Unbelievably, we both like the kit! The Scrapping Spot Design Team Call

The Scrapping Spot is looking for creative, innovative and talkative scrappers to join our Design Team.

The Design Team term will run for six months: October 2008 – March 2009.

Design team members will receive:

-a free monthly TSS kit to create with

-a 25% discount in the online shop

-free shipping on orders that are shipped with the monthly kit.

Design Team members are responsible for:

Designing 4 layouts AND 1 card or altered project (if no card or altered item, then 1 additional layout is requested)

At least 2 finished projects by the 25th of the month, the rest by the 1st of the month

Layouts and other items should use at least 90% of the product in our kits.

1 blog post monthly

Occasional challenges and crop challenges/participation.

Promote The Scrapping Spot around the internet (where allowed)

Contribute tips/articles once a month for The Scrapping Spot's monthly newsletter.

Design Team member layouts may be included in our online or newsletter classes. Design Team members will receive credit for all of their designs.

Vera's back in the house! Let's hear it! YAY! I loved being in Sydney and experiencing World Youth Day, but it truly is great to be home. I was gone for two weeks...yes, only two...and it seems like I missed a whole heck of a lot. The August kits went LIVE. I got my DT kit...Daisy Bucket Playlist the day after I arrived home. It's only the 4th of July

If you're wondering how it can already be the 4th of July when your 3rd is just about winding down... you're not in a parellel universe. I live on the other side of the international date line. Just a fun fact for you...Guam is a US territory and so we have the coolest slogan..."WHERE AMERICA'S DAY BEGINS". Right now it's quiet. In a little while, my house will be noisy... the relatives will be here! In honor of Independence Day, we're eating hot dogs and {turkey} burgers, baked beans and potato salad. Can't get any more "american" than that!

Did you hear?!??! The "sand and water" kit is SOLD OUT. Cry. Rant. Rave. Kick and scream. That kit is G.O.N.E. Never to appear again. I still haven't cut into mine...I am holding on to that baby. Maybe I'll sell to the highest bidder....I can take some bribes! We still have a F.E.W. "sun and water" kits left. By a few, I mean less than the fingers you have on one hand. Yup. We really lucked out with those Memento papers. We were the first (that I know of) that got Memento into the kit club world. We rock big time! Not to mention, that we have the coolest guest designer for July.............. Leah Fung! She sent the most fabulous projects to us. Maybe I can send her my kit and pictures and she'll do the same stuff for me?!?!?! Think she'll go for that?!?!?!?

Don't forget our July sketch class and scrap tag going on at the message board. I'm too scattered right now prepping for my trip so scrap for me, too, okay?
